Jerick Ternida - The Road to Hollywood
For those of you who follow the career of Roderick "Jerick" Ternida and are avid fans, we give you his latest achievement in Hollywood, California, USA. Jerick recently won 2nd place in the Lightweight Division at the Musclemania World Bodybuilding and Fitness 2006 Championship. Pinoymuscle was there to cover the event.
Jerick has been competing yearly in the Musclemania World competition since 2003. This is the first time Pinoymuscle is featuring an athlete for the second time on its frontpage. He was the featured athlete in November 2003. Now, exactly three years later, this Class A competitor is back.
He deserves the accolade he's been given by his fellow competitors, mentors and producers both locally and internationally. A dedicated athlete, no less, in the sport of Bodybuilding, Jerick has the drive, ambition and determination to succeed in anything he does.
The judges in the Musclemnia World 2006 were also in a class of high caliber. Brian Cannone - Chairman of the Judging committee, is the organizer of Musclemania Eastcoast events and President of www.fitnessatlantic.com, Zach Taylor of www.zachtaylor.com - official photgrapher of Muscle and Fitness magazine, Ironman magazine and Natural Physique magazine, Luis Valdez - Mexico Musclemania Promoter, Dr. Marco Zanetti - Italian Musclemania Promoter and President of www.fibbn.it, and Roland Bacani - Philippine Musclemania Promoter and President of www.pinoymuscle.com.
Pre-judging was held at the Grand Ballroom (where most of Hollywood's TV and Movie Award banquet shows are held), Hilton Hotel Universal City Hollywood in the afternoon of Friday, November 17, 2006 and the Final show was held at the Fear Factor Auditorium, Universal Studios, Hollywood, California in the evening of Saturday, November 18, 2006.
The competitors were of high caliber, as well representing countries from all over the world like England, Wales, France, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Japan, Venezuela, Brazil, Iran, Lebanon, Russia, USA and more.
Jerick was supposed to leave Manila, Philippines only 5 days before the competition but was delayed 1 day due to the airline's technical problem. By the time he got to Hollywood, he tried as much to get back on his diet and training. He now learned that when competing internationally, one should arrive to his destination 2 weeks before the contest to get adjusted to the environment, sleeping routine and the climate. This makes a big difference when preparing for a show such as the Musclemania World.
He believes that this year was one of the toughest competition in the Musclemania World he has ever done. He's been preparing for 4 months in his diet
and training:
10 days prior - no cardiovascular activities
7 days prior - carbo-depletion (50 grams of carbo for 3 days), high protein (beef with barbeque sauce - sodium loading 500 grams per meal and
30 egg whites a day
4 days prior - chicken breast (2 kilos), no more egg whites, carbo loading, spinach pasta, durun wheat, old-fashion oatmeal 100 gms per meal
sodium depletion
His water intake:
4 days prior - 4 liter
3 days prior - 2 liter
2 days prior - 2 liter
1 day prior - 1 liter
day of contest-prejudging - no water
Jerick plans to go back and compete in the Middleweight category (185 lbs) or in the Pro category at the Musclemania World 2007 event. He wants to gain up to 230 lbs during the off-season and do some seminars, judging and organizing events in the Philippines.
