Jesela “Lala” Roque - September 2002
Like the saying goes "So much work, so little time", our featured athlete for September Jesela "Lala" Roque epitomizes a career-driven woman still finding time to keep fit and healthy. Lala was the first runner-up in the Slimmers World Great Bodies 2001 Competition held last December 21, 2001 in Makati. She also took home the Miss Photogenic award and the special awards for Miss Jack & Jill Nova and Miss Listerine.
She prepared 2 months before the competition by training at her gym (Slimmers Pasig) doing cardio-vascular exercises (30%), lightweight lifting (70%) and practicing creative posing required for the contest. She feels that 50% of the preparation is diet which means no fats, high-protein, low-carbs, no sodium in her food intake giving her the 24 inch waistline. After winning the competition, she's still at the gym training. "Health and fitness to me is a lifestyle. It becomes part of your life. The benefits are tremendous, not to mention the "feeling good about yourself" aspect.
You think this is all she does is gym work? No Sir!

While in college, she trained in power dancing and modern jazz under Douglas Nieras while active in volleyball and weight training. In high school at St. Scholastica, she was the captain ball in the volleyball team and a member of the dance club. In elementary of the same school, she was an athlete in every sport - soccer/softball, track and field and president of the Sports Club.
Who was the biggest influence in her life with regards to health and fitness? Her eldest brother, Rommel who was the champion of the 1990 Super Body Competition. Rommel brought home several weights and dumbbells and taught all his 5 brothers and sisters.
"Five years from now, I see myself hosting a more challenging sports show for a major network like Extreme sports and Adventures hosted by Dyan Castillejo" Lala is so focused in her vision ever since she was small, that things just fell into place. At 24 years old, this gifted athlete and sportscaster deserves recognition for hard work and discipline. She has come a long way in both health and fitness and sportscasting and will go a long way not just five years from now but through her lifetime. Let's give her a warm round of applause!!!
